Thorough cleaning is the first hurdle. When switching from 15-15-15 to 28-6-6, if more than 1 kg of residual material from the previous batch remains (calculated at 1 ton per batch), the total nitrogen in the new batch will deviate by 0.1%. Cross-contamination of trace elements is even more sensitive—if the previous batch contained zinc, 0.5 kg of residual zinc will cause the zinc content in the new batch to exceed the standard by several times. Solution: The inner wall of the blender must be designed to be smooth and without dead corners, and there should be no material accumulation platform at the discharge door seal. Operationally, the "empty hopper transition method" is implemented—before switching formulas, the hopper is washed once with the next batch of base raw materials (such as urea) and discharged to remove residues.
The formula storage capacity of the batching system determines the switching speed. A high-quality blender's PLC control system should support the storage of more than 20 formulas. The operator selects the formula number on the touchscreen, and the batching system automatically calls up the feeding ratio of each raw material. If the weight values of each raw material need to be manually entered for each switch, it is not only time-consuming but also prone to errors, resulting in the entire batch being scrapped. It is recommended to choose a control system with formula management functions that supports importing and exporting formula data via USB flash drive.
The blender itself is not picky about formulas. Whether it's 15-15-15 or 17-17-17, as long as the particle size of each raw material matches (difference ≤ 0.5mm) and the bulk density is similar, the blender can guarantee a mixing uniformity CV ≤ 5%. However, for the same equipment, when frequently switching formulas, a "residue traceability system" should be established—after each switch, the nutrient content is checked first, and mass production only resumes after confirmation that it meets the standards. If the initial inspection fails, trace back to the cleaning process instead of blindly adjusting the mixing machine parameters to avoid misjudgment and wasted time.
