BB Fertilizer Mixer

The BB fertilizer mixer is the core piece of equipment in the production of BB fertilizer (bulk-blended fertilizer); its operational stability directly determines the uniformity of the blend, production efficiency, and the quality of the finished product. Thanks to advantages such as flexible formulations, balanced nutrients, and suitability for diverse crop and soil requirements, BB fertilizer has become a mainstream choice in modern agricultural fertilization. As the central component of the blending process, the mixer's proper operation is critical to ensuring operational safety, production efficiency, and the effectiveness of the finished fertilizer upon application.

BB fertilizer involves a diverse range of raw materials—such as urea, monoammonium phosphate (MAP), potassium chloride, and organic fertilizer—which differ significantly in terms of particle size, specific gravity, and hygroscopicity. Improper operation can easily lead to issues that compromise product quality, such as uneven mixing, particle breakage, and material adhesion or caking. Therefore, establishing a scientifically sound and standardized system for operation and maintenance is essential.

Structural composition of the equipment

The BB fertilizer mixer primarily consists of the following core components:

(I) Frame System: All working components are mounted on the frame, which is constructed by welding high-quality carbon steel plates and channel steel.

(II) Transmission System: An electric motor drives the system via a pulley, V-belt, and speed reducer; a gear mounted on the reducer meshes with a gear on the mixer body, thereby driving the rotation of the mixing drum.

(III) Mixing Drum System: The drum is fabricated from high-quality carbon steel plate using a specialized process and features specially designed spiral mixing blades on its inner wall.

(IV) Skip-Hopper Feeding System: The guide rail section is constructed from high-quality channel steel.

Application scope of the equipment

BB fertilizer mixers are primarily used in BB fertilizer processing workshops, compound fertilizer plants, and large-scale agricultural supply enterprises. They are suitable for both small-batch production in small-to-medium workshops and integration into production lines for large-scale manufacturing. Designed for the precise blending of multi-element raw materials for various types of BB and mixed fertilizers, these mixers flexibly accommodate everything from standard NPK BB fertilizers to specialized blends containing secondary nutrients and trace elements.

Types of usable raw materials

The raw materials processed by the BB fertilizer mixer include urea, monoammonium phosphate (MAP), potassium chloride, potassium sulfate, and organic fertilizer. These materials require pre-treatment to remove impurities such as stones, sand, and metal fragments, and to ensure uniform particle size, with any agglomerates not exceeding 5 mm in diameter.

The working principle of the equipment

The BB fertilizer mixer operates via forward and reverse rotation, utilizing a specialized internal helical mechanism to mix and discharge materials. Forward rotation ensures uniform blending, while reverse rotation enables rapid unloading. It employs a batch-based, intermittent mixing process that achieves high uniformity without damaging the original granular shape of the materials.

Equipment operating instructions

(I) Pre-feeding Preparation: Conduct a comprehensive inspection of the BB fertilizer mixer before operation. Check the stability of the mixer body to ensure anchor bolts are secure and the unit does not wobble. Inspect the mixing blades to confirm there is no deformation, excessive wear, or looseness. Check the drive system to ensure adequate lubrication and the absence of abnormal noise. Inspect the inlet and outlet gates to ensure they operate smoothly and seal effectively. Screen all raw materials to remove impurities. Operators must wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

(II) Precision Feeding: Follow the feeding sequence principle of "light before heavy, fine before coarse, and dry before wet." First, feed fine-grained, lightweight materials (such as powdered organic fertilizer or fine monoammonium phosphate powder); these materials have low specific gravity and disperse easily. Second, feed medium-grained materials with moderate specific gravity (such as urea granules or potassium sulfate granules). Third, feed coarse-grained, heavy materials (such as coarse potassium chloride granules). Control the feeding speed to ensure a steady rate.

(III) Mixing and Discharge: Control the mixing time (5–10 minutes). If increased mixing resistance or abnormal motor speed is detected during operation, stop the machine immediately for inspection. Once mixing is complete, open the discharge gate to release the finished product.

Equipment maintenance methods

(I) Routine Maintenance: Thoroughly clear out any accumulated material from the machine after each work shift. Inspect wear-prone parts for signs of wear; promptly repair or replace any blades with wear exceeding 5mm. Conduct periodic inspections (1–2 times per month) to check the condition and smooth operation of moving parts, such as worm gears, worms, bearings, and shaft seals.

(II) Lubrication and Maintenance: Periodically replace the grease in all bearings. Regularly apply high-temperature resistant lubricating oil to the lifting guide rails. Periodically check the lubricant level in the gear reducer.

(III) Seasonal Maintenance: After a production season, thoroughly clean the equipment, apply a fresh coat of protective paint to the frame, and apply lubricating oil to moving parts. During winter operation, prioritize moisture and caking prevention; periodically run the equipment while idling to prevent bearing corrosion.
