The production of BB fertilizer essentially involves the direct blending of pre-granulated single-nutrient base fertilizers—such as granular urea, monoammonium phosphate (MAP), and potassium sulfate—based on soil-testing and formula data; the entire process entails no chemical reactions. Powdered material is fed into the wedge-shaped gap between the rollers by a quantitative feeder, where high pressure compresses it into a dense sheet or strip-like "cake." The operating principle involves two stages: the "compaction" stage, where dry material agglomerates into dense, hard, large cakes under pressure; and the "granulation" stage, where these cakes are crushed and screened to produce granules. The extrusion process serves two primary functions: first, it expels air from between the particles; second, it brings the particles close enough together to generate intermolecular forces—such as van der Waals forces, adsorption forces, crystalline bridges, and interlocking connections—which maintain the structural integrity of the granules.
