Vertical disc mixers are core mixing equipment widely used in chemical, food, building materials, and fertilizer production. Because these machines process powders, granules, and viscous materials over extended periods, and involve the coordinated operation of multiple systems including mechanical transmission, sealing systems, and electrical controls, maintenance is an extremely important and frequent task. Bearings bear the entire load of the machine, and proper lubrication significantly impacts their lifespan. Mastering correct operation and maintenance methods and troubleshooting techniques is crucial for ensuring the long-term, efficient, and stable operation of vertical disc mixers.
Structural Disassembly and Component Description
From an operation and maintenance perspective, a vertical disc mixer can be divided into the following modules:
(I) Mixing Module: Includes the mixing disc, mixing arms, and mixing teeth. The mixing teeth are the main working parts and vulnerable components. Their wear and tightness need to be checked regularly. The mixing disc is lined with polypropylene or stainless steel plates.
(II) Power Transmission Module: Includes the electric motor, cycloidal pinwheel reducer, coupling, and bearings. The bearings bear the entire load of the machine. The drive belts need to be checked regularly for tension and wear.
(III) Feeding/Discharging Module: Includes the top feed inlet and the bottom discharge outlet.
(IV) Electrical Control Module: Includes the control box, sensors, controllers, and other electrical components.

Working mechanism and operating logic
The working mechanism of the vertical disc mixer is based on the synergistic effect of "centrifugal dispersion + gravity diffusion". An electric motor drives a cycloidal pinwheel reducer, which in turn drives the main shaft, which in turn drives the mixing teeth to agitate the material. The material falls into the disc from the top inlet, is carried to a height by the mixing teeth, and then falls back down under gravity. Collisions, interpenetration, and diffusion occur between the material particles. The residence time of the material in the disc can be controlled by adjusting the disc rotation speed and the discharge port height.
Maintenance tips and schedule
The maintenance of vertical disc mixers should be strictly carried out according to the "daily inspection, weekly maintenance, and monthly repair" cycle:
Daily Maintenance: After each shift, clean and sanitize promptly. Remove any sticky or residual material from the machine basin. Check that all bolts at the connection points are tight. Check that the mixing blades are secure; repair or replace any faulty blades promptly. Check the disc for deformation or wear.
Regular Lubrication: Regularly check all lubrication points to ensure good lubrication. Regularly check lubrication points such as motor bearings, drive chains, gears, and bearings on the mixing shaft to ensure an adequate supply of lubricating oil or grease. Change the gear oil in the reducer regularly.
Regular Inspection: Regularly inspect vulnerable parts; adjust or replace any abnormalities promptly. Adjust the equipment to normal operating condition promptly. Regularly inspect the transmission system, including belts, chains, and gears, to ensure belts are not loose or broken, chains are well lubricated, and gears mesh normally.
Long-Term Inactivity Maintenance: When the machine is not in use, empty all material from the machine. Clean the electrical control box regularly. All exposed parts should be coated with oil to prevent rust.
